Client and task

WorldSkills Russia sets the current competency requirements for graduates of vocational education programmes. Requirements, regulations, addresses of demonstration exam centres and the people in charge of each area had to sit in one place and be easy to find. The project went through a tender: official IT product documentation had to be delivered with the website, on a tight deadline.

What we built

• Competency blocks

  Current requirements for every WorldSkills competency.

  Colleges and experts see the same version of the requirements in force.

• Search across materials

  The search bar on the home page searches all requirements and documents.

  Find the right material by a word, without browsing sections.

• List of exam centres

  Addresses of demonstration exam centres.

  Clear where to go for the exam.

• Competency managers

  Who is in charge of each area.

  Clear whom to ask about a competency.

• Regulations and requirements archive

  Documents in force and past editions of the requirements.

  Old editions are kept but never confused with current ones.

• Q&A

  An FAQ section and an “Ask a question” button for specialists.

  Common questions are answered without back-and-forth emails.

• Admin panel

  The WorldSkills team maintains requirements, documents, centre lists and contacts on its own.

  Content updates don't wait for developers.

• Tender documentation

  The official IT product documentation the tender required.

  The client got the product with the full set of documents.

How it works

The public Vue.js website takes its data from a Go API. Requirements and documents are stored in PostgreSQL with full-text search on top. WorldSkills editors work in a separate admin panel and sign in through an OAuth 2.0 authorisation service.

Timeline and scale

1. Summer 2018 the first version launched: website, admin panel and tender documentation.
2. 2018–2020 support and improvements, last changes in May 2020.

Scale: requirements for every WorldSkills competency for vocational graduates, a directory of demonstration exam centres, a website for desktop and mobile.

Status

Project completed. We worked on ESAT in 2018–2020. The WorldSkills Russia movement has since been renamed and esat.worldskills.ru no longer opens.
